Human Rights Policy

Overview

ScaleUp Recruitment works with people. How they are treated, by us and by the businesses we introduce them to, is the whole job.

This policy sets out our commitments on human rights, fair treatment and equal opportunity. Our separate Anti-Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery Policy covers exploitation, forced labour and slavery, including in our supply chain. Read them together.

1. Scope

This policy applies to ScaleUp Recruitment, our directors, our staff, and anyone working on our behalf.

It covers everyone we deal with: candidates, contractors we place, clients, suppliers, and our own people.

We are an Australian business working across Australia and internationally. We comply with the human rights and anti-discrimination laws of every jurisdiction we operate in, including the Commonwealth, state and territory laws of Australia, and the applicable laws of any country where we place a candidate or engage a supplier. Where a local standard is lower than the commitments in this policy, we apply this policy.

2. Non-discrimination and equal opportunity

We promote equal opportunity and fair treatment for everyone, regardless of race, colour, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, political opinion, disability, marital or relationship status, pregnancy, family responsibilities, union membership, or any other protected attribute.

We prohibit discrimination, harassment and victimisation on any of these grounds, whether by our own people or by a client or supplier in work we are involved in.

We assess and represent candidates on merit: their skills, their experience and their fit for the role.

Where a client asks us to screen on a protected attribute, we decline. We will explain why, and we would rather lose the work than run that search.

3. Fair employment and recruitment practices

We treat every employee, contractor and temporary worker with dignity, respect and fairness.

Our own recruitment, hiring and promotion decisions are based on merit and qualifications.

We are honest with candidates about the role, the pay, the terms and the process. A candidate makes a better decision with accurate information, and we do not benefit from one made on anything else.

We do not charge candidates a fee for finding them work, and we never have. Our fees are paid by the client who engages us. This holds everywhere we operate, and section 3 of our Anti-Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery Policy explains why it matters.

4. Freedom of association

We respect the right of our people to join, or not join, any association or union of their choice.

We recognise collective bargaining rights and negotiate in good faith with authorised employee representatives where that applies.

5. Working conditions

We provide safe and healthy working conditions and comply with work health and safety law in the places we operate.

Where we place contractors into a client's site, we expect that client to meet the same standard, and we raise it with them when we have reason to think they are not.

6. Working internationally

Placing someone across a border adds risk, and we treat it that way.

Before we place a candidate into another country we satisfy ourselves that the role is genuine, the employer is real, the terms are as described, and the visa or work authorisation route is lawful.

We give candidates the terms of an international role in writing, in plain language, before they accept. Nothing material changes between the offer and the contract.

A candidate's willingness to relocate is never a reason to offer them worse terms.

7. Raising a concern

If you believe we have fallen short of this policy, tell us. That applies to candidates, clients, suppliers and our own staff.

Put it in writing using the contact details below. We will look into it, decide what action is appropriate, and respond within 30 days.

We do not retaliate against anyone who raises a concern in good faith, and we will not treat a candidate differently for having raised one.

8. Governance and review

This policy is owned by the Director of ScaleUp Recruitment, who is accountable for its application.

Our staff review and acknowledge this policy when they join us.

We review it at least annually, and sooner if we enter a new market or the law changes.
