Senior Data Engineer (Consultant)

Are you a highly skilled data engineer ready to step out of pure execution and into a true architectural and leadership role?

ScaleUp is partnering with a premier data and analytics consultancy based in Melbourne. They partner with enterprise and government clients to execute highly complex, large-scale data transformations—including high-profile legacy-to-cloud migrations.

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help lead their technical delivery. This is a rare opportunity to move beyond writing pipelines and take ownership of architectural design, client advisory, and transition into team leadership.

This role is purpose-built for a high-performing senior engineer looking to accelerate their career into consulting. Working on business-critical data engineering and migration projects, you will help:

• Design, build, and deploy modern, scalable data platforms using the Azure ecosystem.

• Act as the crucial bridge between complex technical execution and business strategy, presenting your architectures to senior stakeholders.

• Directly help with mentoring and upskilling a pod of 2 to 5 data engineers, elevating their technical and consulting capabilities.

• Assist leadership in defining Statements of Work (SOWs), scoping new requirements, and ensuring commercial delivery.

Technically, we are looking for experienced Data Engineers who:

• We are looking for people who have extensive experince with building and deploying within Microsoft Azure.

• You'll have multiple years of experience in designing, building, and the production of data pipelines and platforms on Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake

• You'll have a solid experience with end-to-end ownership of data engineering projects

• Production expertise in Azure Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake, Medallion Architecture) and strong proficiency in Snowflake.

• Commercial experience utilizing dbt for transformation, alongside CI/CD and DevOps best practices.

• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and translate business problems into logical data solutions.

You will need to be an Australian Citizen or PR for this opportunity. This is a permanent full-time role based in Melbourne offering a hybrid working environment and paying a salary of $150,000 - $170,000 + superannuation + benefits.
