Not your typical Quant Dev.

ScaleUp is partnering with a global trading business that is expanding its engineering team that support its delta one trading team.

Why is this role not just your typical quant dev role? Well, we are looking for an engineer at heart, someone who has the mindset of a builder and maintainer rather than that of a user. Someone who has moved into the innovating phase of their career rather than imitating.

To be successful in this role, you will be a Software Engineer at heart with financial domain knowledge.

Perhaps you earned a master's degree in applied finance or quantitative finance to complement your software engineering degree. Or you've been an engineer within a trading environment in the past and are looking to come back into the game.

This role exists to help improve the lives of the traders of this team in the Delta one space. You will be partnering with them on a day to day to gather
requirements and translate models into production-quality code, mainly with Python

You will be working with market connectivity data providers, building out data pipelines that harbour HUGE amounts of data, and working on improving the CI/CD pipelines for this. You will need to be comfortable and have some exposure to C++, as the code base that connects market data is written in C++ so you need to deal with performance issues at the start of the process.

No day is ever the same; one day you may be tasked with setting up and building an environment from scratch. For example, you will know how to set up a Jupyter server on Linux as opposed to just running it. Next, building and creating models for traders.

The nature of the role is very fast-paced paced where you get the exciting responsibilities of creating mock-ups, testing requirements, breaking things before implementing, and building out the models.

You'll need to speak the language of traders to successfully build what they are articulating for these experimentation purposes.
Here's a summary of what you will be doing/required to be successful:
  • Working on and building data pipelines (Python)
  • Creating and building the development environment for quant traders to use, involving CI/CD & Python
  • Writing & developing tools for data processing & market signals, rather than just using the tools to create market signals
  • Working with market data from exchanges (C++)
  • Understand the language of traders and the knowledge behind building applications that execute trades.
  • Developing new models to be tested and then built into production code
  • Developing tools that calculate Future asset pricing
  • Developing applications that monitor executions
Don’t apply for this role unless you are prepared to work in the office almost every day, given the nature of the business and position, they are all in the office every day. Mind you, it’s a pretty sweet office though 270 degree views of the harbour, free food, end of trip facilities and is well connected to every mode of public transport.

Apply for this role if you are a software engineer at heart. Have a degree in Software Engineering/Comp. Sci., coupled with further study in applied/quant finance OR have worked in a trading/finance environment in the past.

You’ll also be compensated incredibly well with an above-market base salary on offer + bonus that is always paid out and other benefits like health insurance, gym allowance etc.

If you are after your next role that isn’t just going to be your typical quant dev, then let me know.
