Lead Data Consultant (Data Engineering Background)

ScaleUp is partnering with an award-winning boutique data consulting business that is expanding its Melbourne team. We are looking for a lead data consultant - someone who is a mix of deep technical architecture (data engineering) and strategic client advisory.

This role demands a 50/50 split between technical oversight and senior stakeholder management. You will be leading a dedicated engineering pod of 2 to 5 engineers, focusing heavily on mission-critical government data migration projects.

You will provide technical leadership upon architecting, building, and overseeing robust data pipelines and migration frameworks, particularly with Databricks.

Acting as a senior escalation point for complex troubleshooting to solve intricate legacy data gaps and missing discrepancies.

Navigate strict government frameworks confidently, push back when needed, and align technical realities with firm business views. This is critical for stakeholder negotiation and management.

Also being heavily involved as a team mentor and leader. Directly involved in the review and output of an active team of data engineers

You'll need:

- Roughly 10+ years in data engineering or architecture, ideally with exposure to Government or highly regulated sectors.
- Deep expertise in Azure & Databricks.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and Snowflake.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: version control, modular and testable code, automated testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
- Hands-on experience with dbt and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / Bicep).
- Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of managing difficult stakeholders with limited tooling flexibility.
- Australian Citizen or have full working rights
